The Sydney ISSI 2001 Conference
(http://sistm.web.unsw.edu.au/conference/issi2001)
| Accommodation for ISSI 2001 |
A range of different accommodation locations has been organized for ISSI-2001 participants. They are chosen for comfort and value, email booking facility, and proximity to the University of New South Wales and the Scientia Conference venue. In our list three are hotel/motels (two very close by the University and moderately priced; the other near the surf beach and rather up-market in style), one executive apartment facility and various university colleges. In addition, we have included an Australian holiday accommodation service (www.rent-a-home.com.au) for online booking of short-term accommodation in fully furnished apartments in the Sydney area and further afield for those going on to holiday elsewhere while in Australia.
Participants are requested to make their own accommodation bookings with these places or with any others that they may find for themselves. In exceptional circumstances, the Conference organizers in Australia will mediate accommodation bookings if a conference participant has no other way of making arrangements. Of course, there are other hotels in the city of Sydney (some 20-25 minutes by public transport from UNSW) and in the suburban areas surrounding the University area, such as Kensington, Kingsford, or Coogee. However, the Conference organizers cannot undertake to ensure transport to the Conference venue for participants staying at other hotels.
When making bookings, please make sure that you specify the following:
* You are a participant in the ISSI 2001 Conference on Scientometrics & Informetrics
* You will be paying a special rate as arranged by the ISSI-2001 Conference Organisers (Mari Davis).

Now called: Crowne
Plaza Hotel Address:
Corner Arden & Carr Streets, Coogee Beach, Sydney, NSW
2034.
The Holiday Inn at Coogee is directly across the street form the surf beach. The Hotel is not far from Coogee Bay Road where there are restaurants, coffee bars and other shops. It offers rooms with an Ocean view (they cost more) and one with a Coogee view (buildings of Coogee). The Hotel is like most Holiday Inns around the world, and offer rather more luxurious accommodation than the other sites on this list. But with the rather advantageous exchange rate in Australian dollars (especially for American dollars), this will not be over the top for some participants.
Telephone: +61 (2) 9315 7600
Toll-Free: 1800 674422
Fax: +61 (2) 9315 9100
Rooms: Rooms have 2 double beds or one king-size bed. Ocean view (more cost) means that you get to see the sea and the beach; Coogee view means no sea view and you get views of Coogee's homes and apartment blocks. I have booked 25 rooms to date; we can increase the number of rooms if required. The more people who stay at the Holiday Inn, the cheaper the transport by bus each day to the Conference.
Food: There is a restaurant; breakfast is buffet-style, as is lunch.
Other Facilities: Tea/coffee making facilities in rooms; launderette across the road if you want to do your own otherwise hotel laundry service; outdoor pool, spa and sauna inside, TV and movies.
Transport: The hotel will arrange a bus to bring participants to the Conference site at a small charge per day. It is too far to walk and the public bus service may not be departing at a convenient time for you to get to the Conference right on time.
Cost: Rooms with Ocean View: approx. $252; Rooms with Coogee View: approx.
$212.

Rent-a-home (www.rent-a-home.com.au) |
Australia's first Calendar Based Real Time Booking and Payment web site for short-term holiday and corporate property rentals. Hotel accommodation can be expensive and often lacks the comfort you are accustomed to at home. Renting a vacant home is an economical and fun accommodation alternative.
Note for all above: there may be some increase on the accommodation rates listed above. To be on the safe side in your calculations on cost, prepare for a rise of between 5-10 per cent. Australia has just introduced (as of July 1, 2000) a new taxation system based on a "Good & Services Tax (GST)" of approx. 10 per cent across the board. Food bought in supermarkets and food stores is mostly exempt; restaurant food is not since it is serviced and prepared and thus incurs the GST.
Compiled by the Australian Conference Organizers - 1st May, 2000
Updates for this listing of accommodation will be made when necessary.
